Dr. McNamara will review the history of AAEM by discussing the reasons it formed in 1993 and how it evolved over time to become a significant force in EM and the recognized champion of the bedside physicians. Dr. McNamara is a founding board member and created the first draft of the AAEM Mission Statement and has continually served the organization since its founding. Significant milestones will be reviewed along with considerations for the future of AAEM.
Learning Objectives:
The learner will understand the environment in the specialty of EM at the time of AAEM's founding in 1993 and the key issues behind the formationi of AAEM.
The learner will be able to discuss AAEM's key legal actions on behalf of EM physicians as they relate to the corporate practice of EM.
