Are we missing warning signs for child abuse in our emergency departments? Many children will have a sentinel injury prior to having a fatal or near fatal injury related to abuse. Unfortunately abuse may be more common than we think. We must maintain a high index of suspicion to try and identify these events before it is too late! This talk will go over red flag signs where child abuse must be considered.
Learning Objectives:
Demonstrate understanding of the significance of sentinel injuries.
Recognize which physical exam findings should raise concern
Perform next steps in evaluation where there is concern for abuse.
