The presentation will explore a well rounded approach to rest in all its forms. It will pull from the 7 types of rest essential for everyone, including and especially to emergency medicine physicians. It will highlight the importance of sensory rest given our exceptionally demanding career, and taking note of worsening burnout trajectory. The talk will explore the 5 senses, highlighting their significance in maintaining well-being. It will define these aspects and provide examples to illustrate additive and subtractive measures affecting our senses that can be translated into practical strategies for real-life application.

Learning Objectives:

  • Recognize the importance of achieving true rest (not just sleep) given the gravity of Emergency Medicine burnout & fatigue.
  • Identify the 7 types of rest and understand their meanings for a more well rounded approach to true rest.
  • Put into practice the examples provided to nurture their own well being.
