With novel antihyperglycemics like semaglutides becoming highly popular for both diabetes care and weight loss, it is important for the emergency physician to be familiar with them, recognize side effects and anticipate complications.
Learning Objectives:
Review the mechanisms of GLP-1 agonist medications
Recognize the indications for which patients take these medications beyond diabetes, and the lengths to which they will go to obtain them
Develop a strategy to manage possible side effects and interactions these medications may have in the context of the emergency department
