True endocrine emergencies outside of diabetes-related emergencies are infrequently seen by the average emergency physician. However, when occurring, are absolute can't miss diagnoses. This talk will highlight and review the presentation and latest management recommendations for the diagnosis and treatment of adrenal crisis, thyroid storm, and myxedema coma.
Learning Objectives:
Recall the clinical presentation and laboratory abnormalities of adrenal crisis, with specific discussion of the most recent recommendations for mineralocorticoid and glucocorticoid treatment.
Review the multi-step, nuanced, and expedient care required to appropriately manage thyroid storm.
Recognize the spectrum of presentation for myxedema coma, including extremes in presentation requiring more resuscitative care.
