The evidence is clear- Emergency Departments that are underprepared for pediatric patients can cause short and long term negative impacts on the children that arrive at their doors. This session will provide an overview of critical care management for pediatric patients, including updates from 2024. Topics will include pediatric resuscitation, critical DKA management, seizures and sepsis updates from the past year and will briefly discuss trauma literature.
Learning Objectives:
Identify the most common high risk pediatric emergency conditions that may present to any emergency department.
know the sometimes subtle differences in management for pediatric versus adult critical care management for different emergent conditions
Feel comfortable that they know the most up to date information to ensure the best outcomes for critical pediatric patients.
