Kristyn J. Smith, DO is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (HUP). Her academic interests include health equity education for the emergency provider, integration of health equity into simulation education, medical student pipeline development, and mentorship. Currently, Kristyn is the Secretary/Finance Chair of AAEM's Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) section and the Leadership Workgroup Committee Co-Lead for the Women in Emergency Medicine Section (WiEMS). Additionally, she is a board member for the Summer Health Professions Education Program (SHPEP) National Alumni Advisory Board. Kristyn completed her residency at Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia, PA. During residency, Kristyn founded the health equity in emergency medicine journal club. She was the 2021 recipient of the Einstein Medical Center Dr. William & Margaret E. Menin Humanistic Sensitivity Award and 2021 Einstein Medical Center Emergency Medicine Residency Program Humanitarian Award. She completed her medical degree at the Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine. Kristyn is a previous Cook/Rutledge Fellow at the New Jersey Department of Minority & Multicultural Health; during the fellowship she developed a training curriculum for implementation of the National Standards for Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate Services (CLAS) in Health and Health Care.
