Dr. Lynch completed emergency medicine residency at the University at Buffalo in Buffalo, New York, where he served as chief resident his final year. He is an associate professor of emergency and addiction medicine at the University at Buffalo Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences and a senior physician/site medical director with UB|MD Emergency Medicine. Dr. Lynch is a national leader substance use disorder and serves as technical advisor for the New York State Department of Health. Additionally, Dr. Lynch is a medical director and flight physician for Mercy Flight of Western New York, serves on the board of directors at the 100 Club of Buffalo, recently as a trustee for the Clarence Board of Education.
He is the founder and Chief Medical Officer of the MATTERS Network focused on increasing access to treatment for substance use disorder, rapid referrals to long term substance use treatment, providing harm reduction supplies, and emergency telemedicine assessments. The MATTERS Network provides patients acces to their choice of treatment across a network of over 250 treatment organizations offering over 2,500 weekly appointment slots. The program was designed to be replicated anywhere, regardless of population or resource density. Dr. Lynch frequently presents nationally on other substance use disorders. He has been an invited speaker to many national and international meetings on the topics of emergency medicine, EMS, and addiction medicine. His team has received over 30 million dollars in grant funding for various public health initiatives, primarily targeting opioid use disorder.
