Esmael Mayar, MD FAAEM is a board-certified emergency medicine physician and Emergency Ultrasound Fellow at Advocate Christ Medical Center. He completed his medical degree at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine Greenville and residency in emergency medicine at Advocate Christ. He is currently pursuing an MBA at Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management, he is focused on healthcare operations and systems management.
Esmael has expertise in point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS), using it to enhance patient care, improve systems and outcomes, and medical education. As an attending physician, he has trained medical students, residents, and advanced practice providers in emergency medicine and ultrasound techniques. He has also played key leadership roles in emergency preparedness, serving as a Senior Medical Control Officer in the U.S. Air Force, where he provided critical care in complex operational environments.
In addition to his clinical practice, Esmael is actively leading a clinical ultrasound training program for Afghan doctors at Aliabad University Hospital in Kabul, Afghanistan in partnership with Pious Projects, a 501(c)3 nonprofit. His work includes researching and purchasing ultrasound equipment, training providers, conducting tape review for quality assurance, delivering lectures and didactics, and organizing in-person training and examinations during visits to the country. This initiative aims to build sustainable ultrasound proficiency among Afghan physicians, improving patient care in resource-limited settings.
Esmael likes to spend time hiking and travelling with his family.
