Beth J. Kushner, is the Chief Medical Information Officer and a board-certified emergency physician at St. Joseph’s Health in Paterson, New Jersey. She received her Bachelor of Science degree from Rutgers University in 2009 and graduated from Nova Southeastern University with honors in 2013. Dr. Kushner completed her residency in emergency medicine (2017) followed by her fellowship in medical informatics and administration (2018) at St Joseph Health. Since completing her training, she became the health system's CMIO leading the implementation of Cerner EMR throughout the entire healthcare system. Since the Cerner deployment in 2018, she has participated in multiple optimizations and enhancements, helping to create intuitive clinical workflows that facilitate the provider experience.
In her role as the CMIO, Dr. Kushner is responsible for the medical leadership of the electronic health system. Her goal is to support and operate information technology systems that provide functionality, clinical decision support, and innovation ensuring the highest quality healthcare. Her passion for revenue cycle has led her to become a Certified Professional Coder and attain several revenue cycle certifications. She has integrated this into her role as CMIO to create cutting edge, clinically driven, workflows that optimize the provider and administrative experience in a collaborative fashion within the EHR.
Most recently, Dr. Kushner has achieved the certification of Professional Compliance Officer. Adding an understanding of the complex regulations that govern the medical field. Her deep understanding of informatics, compliance, professional coding, and medicine has afforded Dr. Kushner the opportunity to spearhead a myriad of novel initiatives throughout her healthcare system. Some of her initiatives include the use of artificial intelligence, implementation of population health tools, improving intuitive clinical decision making, and leveraging data to assist clinical decision making whilst decreasing mental burden on clinical staff through native workflows.
