Lena Carleton, MD, is a fifth-year resident physician in Emergency Medicine and Internal Medicine at the University of Illinois Chicago. Lena’s academic interests focus on improving transitions of care, particularly between the emergency department and outpatient settings. She is passionate about bridging gaps in continuity of care, ensuring that patients receive comprehensive follow-up and support after acute medical encounters. Lena has a deep commitment to primary care and preventive medicine, recognizing the critical role these fields play in reducing emergency department visits and improving long-term patient outcomes. She embraces opportunities to integrate elements of primary care into her emergency medicine practice. Lena is also a strong advocate for healthcare access and equity, working to address disparities in the healthcare system and improve care for underserved populations. She believes in the importance of system-wide change to create more inclusive and effective healthcare delivery models. Outside of medicine, Lena enjoys listening to podcasts and audiobooks, exploring new neighborhoods, and spending time with her husband and son.
